Recycling & Waste Reduction Efforts

Over the past year, Athletics has made a concerted effort to work towards more sustainable events and operations.

Recent Initiaitives Include:

Xpress Nap napkin dispensers

Xpress Nap napkin dispensers were installed in many concession stands over the past year. Unlike a conventional dispenser, only 1 napkin can be taken at a time and because of this, the dispensers have been proven to reduce napkin use by 25-50%.

Outdoor Recycling

Clearn "Can-able" containers were introduced to outdoor athletic events back in Fall 2008. For the first time, these gave fans an easy and convenient way to recycle their beverage containers. The containers will appearing again for events this spring.

Recycling at Gampel

Athletics worked with the Office of Environmental Policy and the EcoHusky student group to increase recycling rates at Gampel Pavilion this season. The placement of recycling bins and trash receptacles was re-worked, signage was increased, and EcoHuskies were invited to 2 games to "Man the Can" and speak with fans about the importance of recycling.
